Odoo 18 POS Configuration

For configuration of POS Product Categories in Odoo18, go to the Point of Sale module and select the Configuration menu, which includes the POS Product Categories option.

Clicking on it takes you to a new page that displays all of the existing product categories. To set up a new category, use the New button.

  • Category Name – Users can enter the name of the product category.
  • Parent Category—Allocating a parent category helps structure product categories and creates a hierarchy. For example, if the ‘Soft drinks’ category must fall within the ‘Drinks’ category, it might be specified in this field.
  • Offered Between – Specifies the time frame in which this category will be offered in the POS system (for example, 00:00 to 24:00 for full-day usage).
  • Colour – Lets users to allocate a colour to the category, letting it stand out on the POS interface.
  • Image – Users can submit an image symbolising the category to improve identification and use in POS.

Now, the POS Product category must be connected to the products that must be available under it. To do so, go to Product > Products.

How to Assign Multiple POS Product Categories in Odoo18

The product page opens; from there, choose which product should be added to this category. From the product page, navigate to the Point of Sale tab, where you will find a field called Category. Multiple categories can be assigned to the product in that area, allowing it to be found and readily picked from the POS session.

The categories displayed during a POS session can be controlled. That is, for a restaurant POS session, categories like Desks, Chairs, and so on are not necessary. Restrict Categories is a feature in the Product & PoS Categories section. In that field, enter the categories that must be displayed during the PoS session.

Now, go to the POS dashboard, go to the PoS session ‘Restaurant’, and click on Open Register.

Because the Sort by Category function is activated when an item in the Bread category is put in to the cart, it is organised under the current Bread category item (Rye Bread) rather than appearing on a new line.
