How to Split and Merge Manufacturing Orders in Odoo 17
The manufacturing module in Odoo ERP can create manufacturing orders for a single unit of an item, or multiple units of the same item. A manufacturing order may contain multiple units in two or more orders, It may be necessary to split and merge manufacturing orders in Odoo into smaller, manageable orders or merge two or more orders into a single order to enhance overall production efficiency. A manufacturing order can only contain one product unit or multiple units of a single product that uses the same Bill of Materials (BoM). So it is only possible to merge manufacturing orders where every order contains the same product with the same BoM. In this blog, we will explain how to split and merge manufacturing orders in Odoo.
How to Split Manufacturing Orders
Splitting Manufacturing Orders is useful for batch production and mass production. It helps to split in advance and to schedule all the other orders in advance. We can also assign in advance the production of the different back orders to the different employees. Here we can achieve a production capacity overview which is the actual number of components that have been stocked now, the number of units that have been finished, and the products we can produce with what we have now and facilitate the splitting.
To split a manufacturing order into multiple orders, first, we begin by Manufacturing > Operations > Manufacturing Orders and select an order.
Next to the New button, there will be a (settings) button next to the manufacturing order’s reference number
Open the settings for the order by clicking the (settings) and then select Split.
Now a Split production window appears. The number of manufacturing orders the original order should be split into must be entered in the Split#field. A table is shown below where each line is for the new manufacturing order that is to be created by the split. Number of units assigned to each new order is entered in the Quantity To Produce column. The manufacturing order is split into the number of orders specified in the Split # field when we click Split. The reference number for the new orders is a reference to the original order.
Merge Manufacturing Orders
This is useful for batch production and planning purposes. In order to merge manufacturing orders they need to be in the same status either confirmed or draft. They also need to be concerned with identical products and identical Bill of Material. They cannot have any additional components or any by-products.
When we merge the manufacturing orders they will become one and report the source as the merged manufacturing order and the other will get cancelled, but they will still be in the database in case we need It and will be automatically cancelled by the system. The responsibility will either be the same for all the manufacturing orders or will have different responsibilities for different orders.
To merge manufacturing orders into a single order, first, we begin by Manufacturing > Operations >Manufacturing Orders. Click the checkbox of each manufacturing order that is to be merged.
After selecting the orders, select Merge from the drop-down menu that appears by clicking the Actions button at the top of the page.
The above-selected orders are merged into a single order and the reference number assigned for the new order is the next sequential number, that is not already existing. By following the steps above, you can easily learn how to split and merge manufacturing orders.
